Could not create the Java Virtual Machine
toggle
on Mon 09 of Nov., 2009 15:21 EST, by bdesc100
I have just installed NEST 3B, and am getting the error:

Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occured. Program will exit.

I have uninstalled all Java installations and re-installed JRE 6 update 17. I still get the same error and NEST won't lauch. Running Windows XP SP 2 on Intel Xeon quad core with 3GB RAM. Ideas?

I had the same problem when try to run on a 2GB RAM Windows XP SP3, which I got round by reducing the -Xmx????M value to-Xmx1100M in the 'dat.bat'. Obviously this means that the NEST3B application runs a little slower but at least it let me run from the command line using this amended 'dat.bat'.

I would have thought with the 3GB RAM that you would not have had this same problem unless you have other things running?

That worked. Had to edit the actual dat.bat file. Thanks for your help.

I changed from 110 to 4280 this -xmx????M and got the same message. Also changed M with K, if it is the unit form MB and KB, and got the same problem.

I have Win XP, with 2 GB Ram and just installed the new NetBeans? 6.7.1 with JRE 6.

Are there some other options to adjust?

Regards.
Juan

Hi Juan,

Changing to -xmx4280M would only make things worse? Try reducing the value. If -xmx1100M does not work then try -xmx1000M if not then -xmx900M

Sorry can't be more help.

Hello,

I'm having the same error when trying to install NEST 4B. Is there any good solution to this yet?

[Running Windows 7, 32 bit, Intel Core Duo CPU, 4GB memory]

Thanks,

Mike

edit your dat.bat

replace

-Xms512M -Xmx1024M -XXemoticonermSize=512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m

to

-Xmx900M

then run dat.bat

same problem here, but my dat.bat contains a different text.

Nest starts SOMETIMES if I double-click dat.bat, but it does not start when clicking the NEST icon...

But now, when using gpt commandline, I get still this error:

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

I got the same problem ; using icon NEST does not start, dat.bat does not work, and gpt does not work.

In the gpt script, I let only '-server -Xmx1024M' (the other xm parameters have been removed) and all things are working pretty well (except the icon).

When I open NEST 4B, it closes immediately.
I've a 32bit PC running windows7 and dat.bat displays:

-server -Xmx850M -Xverify:none ^

Some help please.
