Deriving Coherence from ASAR WSS
coherence asar wss phase
7/8/11 2:45 PM
I'm trying to extract the phase component from a series of ASAR WSS datasets from which I want to derive coherence.

I've managed to deburst and mosaic the Phase components of the five sub-swaths, next I want to co-register the images as a set prior to estimating coherence, however, the coregistration tool will not allow me to and does not register the bands. I think it is because the mosaiced product does not have the required metadata but I do not know to retain the metadata in the mosaic process or replace it.

Does my methodology sound reasonable? If so what is the best way to proceed? If not, what is the best manner in which you can estimate coherence from a set of ASAR WSS images.

That sounds reasonable. We need to determine what the metadata should be after mosaicking.
Unfortunately not many people use the WSS products as so we haven't given it as much attention.

You want to estimate coherence between the swaths of the same WSS? This will only give a result for the small overlapping area between two swaths.
If so, then don't mosaic. Do the deburst into two separate products (one band each) then coregister these two products.

Hi Luis,

thanks for your response, I work with Nick so thought I would reply.

What we are trying to do is estimate coherence between a temporal selection of WSS scenes which was why we had assumed we would need to mosaic the data then we could coregister it and then calculate the coherence. Or would we be better placed comparing the sub swaths between the temporal images?

Is the metadata easily incorporated into a mosaic and if so how can this be done?

Look forward to hearing from you

Thanks

Has anyone got any more thoughts on this problem? We had hoped that this would be easy to do with this data but it seems like it might be a little more complicated than we had imagined!

Appreciate any help or suggestions!

best wishes

In order to preserve the phase-information InSAR operations must always be done first, i.e. you need to coregister the sub-swaths separately, calculate the coherence and then mosaic the results.
